 Appalachian weatherlore is a historically strange, endearingly whimsical, and vastly important tradition of this region. Rooted in generations of agricultural and rural life, folk beliefs such as “planting by the signs” were a means of using weather and astrology to predict good harvests.

These beliefs were passed down through storytelling and observation, forming 
an informal yet enduring system of weather indicators and knowledge. 

This project explores my interest in both traditional Appalachian culture and experimental bookforms, through the form of a pop-up book.
