Appalachia’s deeply rooted tradition of folk ballads stems partly from its connection to landscape, but also its ties to community.
In times of hardship, loss, betrayal, grief, and love, folk ballads, such as the ones included here, serve as remedies for collective healing and remembrance.
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, amid the destruction and now altered landscape, this book serves as a vessel to hold space, appreciation, and acceptance of the ways in which our immediate surroundings have been altered.
